Tips & Tricks

Wedding Jewelry Tips and Tricks

  • Choose a necklace that complements the cut of your wedding gown. A diamond solitaire will surely work well with a V or sweetheart neckline, whereas a rhinestone choker or a pearl will look stunning with a strapless bodice.
  • Your hairstyle, necklace and headpiece can play a major role in deciding the type of earrings you wear. If you have an upswept hair style, long earrings with drops will be the ideal option for you. Similarly, small bejeweled hoop earrings or simple studs can complement a decorated veil, tiara or a dramatic necklace.
  • Your wedding can be the perfect occasion for you to wear your family jewelry. Think about creative ways in which you can incorporate your family jewelry into your bridal look. You can wear your grandma's pearls, your aunt's diamond earrings or your mother's charm bracelet for not only sentimental reasons but also while saving a considerable amount of money.

Wedding Day Make-Up Tips and Tricks

  • Have a rehearsal of your wedding makeup. Get pictures that you like from magazines. Show the beautician a picture of your wedding dress. This will give her insight into your theme.
  • Choose a mascara that's waterproof; it lasts longer and withstands tears. If you really don't like the look or feel, use one coat of regular mascara, then follow up with a light coat of waterproof mascara.
  • Pop an eye drop if your eyes look red or tired, but stick with a brand you've used before to avoid unwelcome surprises (irritation or worse!).
  • Choose a lip color that's a bit bright. Pale nude or brown lip hues can make you appear washed out in photos, particularly since you'll be wearing white. If you normally wear a neutral hue, wear it as your base with a pink or rose color on top. If you normally wear dark lipstick, use that as your base and apply a lighter sheer pink on top to give you a lift.
  • You can have the softest lips and the perfect lipstick, but if your teeth are yellow, you won't want to flash a smile. There are lots of safe, reliable over-the-counter teeth-whitening systems, which all whiten teeth by a few shades.

Wedding Day Hair Tips and Tricks

  • A bride's hair should complement her gown, not compete with it. The formality of your outfit is key and should dictate the direction you go with your hair. For a chic, modern ensemble like a pant suit or a simply cut dress, either slick back hair or wear it in a sleek blow-out. For country wedding-type looks -- peasant dresses, high-waisted frocks, or any other period-influenced cut -- either wear your hair in loose curls-- maybe sprinkled with small flowers take well to curly hair -- or tied it back. Big ball gown style dresses look best with dramatic updos.
  • Be sure to find an effective way to attach your headpiece -- if you have one -- to your hair. Wide-toothed combs just aren't going to cut it with straight and fine hair;  Pure Bliss can order your veil on loops instead of a comb for better security. Wavy and curly hair are more suited for headpiece staying power -- use bobby pins, barrettes, or combs, whatever works for you. Unless you have the budget to have your hair styled twice (and quickly, the second time!), make sure the 'do you choose goes well both with your headdress and without.
  • If you have your hair colored, permed, or treated, have it done at least one month before your wedding date. The extra time will soften your style a bit, so it looks more natural. Also, should disaster strike, you'll have time to fix it.
  • Don't go too over the top -- it will just leave your guests wondering who that chick in the white dress is! Besides that, an overly complicated 'do is just one more thing for you to worry about -- and we all know that's not something you need right now
